ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DMI PROGRAMMES

    1. National Technical Award (NTA) System

  • Basic Technician Certificate in Marine Operations (BTCMO) – NTA Level 4

    • Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV) with at least four passes at D in the following subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Science, Geography and English; or
    • Holder of relevant certificate of competency Level III issued by VETA and Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV).
  • Basic Technician Certificate in Shipping and Logistics Management (BTCSLM) – NTA Level 4

    • A Holder of Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with at least four passes excluding religious subjects;or
    • A Holder of National Vocational Award level III in relevant field and Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV).
  • Technician Certificate in Maritime Transport (TCMT) - NTA Level 5

    • Holder of Basic Technician Certificate in Marine Operations (BTCMO) -NTA Level 4; or
    • Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary School Education ACSSE with at least one principal pass and subsidiary pass with an aggregate of at least 1.5 points in Mathematics, Physics or Geography.
  • Technician Certificate in Marine Engineering (TCME) - NTA Level 5

    • A Holder of Basic Technician Certificate in Marine Operations (BTCMO) - NTA Level 4;or
    • Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE) with at least one principal pass in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry
  • Technician Certificate in Shipping and Logistics Management (TCSLM) - NTA Level 5

    • A Holder of Basic Technician Certificate in Shipping and Logistics Management /Logistics and Transport Management/ Marine Operations;or
    • Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination with at least 1 principal pass or 2 subsidiaries passes other than religious subjects.
  • Ordinary Diploma in Maritime Transport (ODMT) - NTA Level 6

    • Holder of Technician Certificate in Maritime Transport (TCMT) - NTA Level 5.
  • Ordinary Diploma in Marine Engineering (ODME) - NTA Level 6

    • Holder of Technician Certificate in Marine Engineering (TCME) - NTA Level 5.
  • Ordinary Diploma in Shipping and Logistics Management (ODSLM) - NTA Level 6

    • Holder of Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Shipping and Logistics Management (TCSLM)
  • Ordinary Diploma in Shipping and Logistics Management (ODSLM) - NTA Level 6

    • Holder of Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Shipping and Logistics Management (TCSLM)
  • Ordinary Diploma in Shipping and Logistics Management (ODSLM) - NTA Level 6

    • Holder of Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Shipping and Logistics Management (TCSLM)
  • Bachelor Degree in Maritime Transport (BMT) - NTA Level 7/8

    • Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations with at least two principal passes in the following subjects; Mathematics, Physics, Geography and Chemistry with an aggregate of 4 points and at least 3 credits at ‘O’ level in relevant subjects including English;or
    • Holder of an Ordinary Diploma in Maritime Transport and Master Fishermen with at least a GPA of 3.5 from a recognized institution and at least 3 Pass at ‘O’ level in relevant subjects including English.
  • Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering Technology (BMET) - NTA Level 7/8

    • Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations with at least two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry subjects and at least 3 credits at ‘O’ level in relevant subjects including English;or
    • Holder of Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) in either Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering with at least a GPA of 3.5 from a recognized institution and at least 3 Pass at ‘O’ level in relevant subjects including English.
  • Bachelor Degree in Shipping in Logistics and Management (BSLM) - NTA Level 7/8

    • Holder of advanced certificate of secondary education examination (ACSSE) with a total of 4.0 points from two principal passes for science and commerce subjects; or
    • Holder of ordinary diploma (NTA level 6) in shipping and logistics management, logistics and transport, maritime transport, master fisherman, marine engineering, procurement and logistics, freight clearing and forwarding and transport management with at least a GPA of 3.5; or
    • Holder of full technician certificate (FTC) with an average grade of B ; or
    • Holder of diploma in education with an average grade of B+ for science and commerce subjects.
  • 2. Certificate of Competency Programmes

  • Officer in Charge of a Navigation Watch on Ships less than 500GT

    • holder of national certificate of secondary school education with 36 months seagoing service as rating or Ordinary Diploma in Maritime Transport or Advanced Certificate of Secondary School education with 6 months of approved seagoing service.

  • Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch

    • Holder of national certificate of secondary school education with 4 passes including Mathematics, Physics and English and has 36 months seagoing service as rating or Ordinary Diploma in Maritime Transport or Advanced Certificate of Secondary School education with 12 months of approved seagoing service or
    • Holder of Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on Ships less than 500GT with 36 months sea service on board ship.

  • Master on Ships less than 500GT

    • Holder of Officer In Charge of a Navigation Watch on Ships less than 500GT and have not less than 12 months of seagoing serviced on board ship as Officer in Charge of Navigation Watch on Ships less than 500GT.

  • Master and Chief Mate on Ships Between 500GT and 3000GT

    • Holder of Certificate of Competency as officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more and has not less than 12 months of approved seagoing service.

  • Master and Chief Mate

    • Holder of Certificate of Competency as officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more and has not less than 12 months of approved seagoing service. To qualify as a Master a Candidate must have not less than 36 months seagoing service; however this period may be reduced to not less than 24 months if not less than 12 months of such sea service has been served as Chief Mate.

  • Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch on Ships less than 750kW

    • Holder of ordinary level secondary school education and has not less than 36 months seagoing service period.

  • Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch

    • Holder of certificate of ordinary level secondary school education with 4 passes including Mathematics, Physics and English or a Holder of a Technician Certificate in Marine Engineering NTA level 5 or a Holder of CoC for Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch less than 750 kW and has not less than 36 months of seagoing service.
    • Holder of ACSE with 2 principal passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry or a Holder of a relevant NTA level 6 of education and OOEW< 750kW. In this route a candidate will undergo a period of an approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months.

  • Chief Engineer Officer and Second Engineer Officer on Ships between 750kW and 3000kW

    • Holder of Certificate of Competency as officer in charge of an engineering watch on seagoing ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power or more and has not less than 12 months of seagoing service while qualified as officer in charge of an engineering watch. To qualify as a chief engineer officer a candidate must have not less than 24 months seagoing service of which not less than 12 months of such sea service has been served as second engineer officer.

  • 3. Logistics and Transport Programmes conducted in Collaboration between DMI and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT-UK).

  • Introductory Certificate in Logistics and Transport

    • Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education.
  • International Certificate in Logistics and Transport

    • Holder of Introductory Certificate in Logistics and Transport; or
    • Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education with at least 4 passes in the following subjects:-English, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Commerce, Accounts;or
    • Holders of Basic Technician Certificate in Marine Operations.
  • International Diploma in Logistics and Transport

    • Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least two passes in the following subjects:-English, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Commerce, Accounts and working experience in the logistics and transport of at least two years;or
    • Holder of International Certificate in Logistics and Transport;or
    • Holders of Technician Certificate in Maritime Transport .
  • International Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport

    • Holder of International Diploma in Logistics and Transport.
  • 4. Shipping and Logistics Programmes conducted in Collaboration between DMI and the Association of Business Managers and Administrators (ABMA-UK.)

  • Level 4 Diploma in Shipping and Logistics

    • Holder of an Introductory Certificate in Logistics and Transport; or
    • Holder of Basic Technician Certificate in Marine Operations;or
    • Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV) with at least four passes including English.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Shipping and Logistics

    • Holder of Level 4 Diploma in Shipping and Logistics; or
    • Holder of Certificate in Clearing, Forwarding and Shipping Management;
  • Level 6 Diploma in Shipping and Logistics

    • Holder of Level 5 Diploma in Shipping and Logistics; or
    • Holder of Diploma in Clearing, Forwarding and Shipping Management.
